Aelfgifu of Shaftesbury likeness unknown

Aelfgifu was the wife of King Edmund I and mother of King Eadwig and King Edgar. After her husband Edmund was murdered, her two sons were passed over in favour of Edmund’s brother Eadred because they were too young to rule. They reigned after Eadred’s death.
