Gruffydd was the son of Llywelyn ap Seisyll of Wales. He became the first and only King of Wales. An alliance with Aelfgar of Mercia was sealed with the marriage of Gruffydd to Aelfgar’s daughter Ealdgyth. The rise of the Godwin family saw Harold and Tostig push into Wales and Gruffydd fled to Snowdonia where he died.
