Short Biography
Aethelflaed was born around 920 and died around 975, the daughter of Ealdorman Aelfgar of Essex. In 944 she became the second wife of King Edmund I. They were only married for two years before he was murdered in Pucklechurch by a thief called Leofa.
Edmund’s brother Eadred succeeded as King of England because his sons were too young to rule. Some time later she married a man named Aethelstan who was probably an Ealdorman but no further details are known. Aethelflaed is believed to have died around 975.
