Uhtred was the son of Waltheof I of Bamburgh. The date of his birth is not known. He spent time fighting the Scots and the Danes and became ealdorman of Northumbria. His third wife was Aelfgifu, daughter of King Aethelred the Unready by his first wife Aelfgifu of York. He was assassinated in 1016.
