Wulfthryth of Wessex Short Biography
Wulfthryth of Wessex was the wife of King Aethelred I of Wessex. Very little is known of her life and the identity of her parents is unknown.
Wulfthryth witnessed a royal charter as qeen in 868 which is evidence that she married King Aethelred in, or before, 868.
The couple had two children, Aethelwold and Aethelhelm. After the death of Aethelred the crown passed to Aethelred’s younger brother King Alfred the Great because the children were considered too young to rule particularly as Britain was facing repeated attacks by the Danes.
