Gospatric, Earl of Northumbria d. 1073

Gospatric Earl of Northumbria likeness unknown

Gospatric was the son of Maldred of Allerdale and Edith of Northumbria, Grandson of Malcolm II. King William I allowed him to become Earl of Northumbria after paying a sum of money. When William began harrying the north of England, Gospatric joined forces with the Anglo-Saxons and fought against the Conqueror. He lost the earldom and fled to Scotland where he died in 1073.
