Saint Edith was a daughter of King Edward the Elder by his second wife Aelfflaed of Mercia. The date of her birth is not known, but she is thought to have died around 930. She married Sihtric Caech King of Northumbria and had three sons. After her husband’s death she became a nun at Polesworth Abbey, Warwickshire and then abbess at Tamsworth Abbey Gloucestershire. She was made a saint after her death.
