Haakon was born in 1046. He was the son of Sweyn Godwinson, brother of Harold II. In 1053 he was given as a hostage to King Edward the Confessor. Taken to Normandy, he and his uncle Wulfnoth became prisoners of William Duke of Normandy. He and his uncle returned to England in 1065 having been rescued by Harold Godwinson but nothing is known of him from that point.
