Short Biography
Saint Edith was a daughter of King Edward the Elder by his first wife Aelfflaed of Mercia, the younger sister of King Aethelstan. The date and place of her birth is not known.
Athelstan arranged her marriage to Sihtric Caech, King of Northumbria. They married on 30th November 926 had three sons.
Sihtric Caech died in 927 and after her husband’s death Edith became a nun at Polesworth Abbey, Warwickshire and then abbess at Tamsworth Abbey Gloucestershire. she is thought to have died around 930 and was made a saint after her death.
