Short Biography
Aelfgifu of York was born around 963, the daughter of Thored of Northumberland and his wife, Hilda. In the early 980s, Aelfgifu became the wife of King Aethelred the Unready and they had nine children:
Aethelstan (985 – 1014)
Ecgbert (d. 1005)
King Edmund Ironside (990 – 1016)
Eadred (d. 1012)
Eadwig (d. 1017)
Edgar (d. 1012)
Eadgyth (995 – 1022),
Aelfgifu (997 – 1042),
Wulfthryth (998 – 1042)
Aelfgifu of York is believed to have died in 1002 as Aethelred remarried later that year.
